                                                 TOO SOON IT'S OVER

Too soon it's over.   A season of playing a game we grew up living and loving.  Too soon the last pitch is thrown, the last run is scored and the last out is made.

Seems like the season began just yesterday and now it all comes to a close, leaving us with only memories of every pitch, every hit, every run and yes, every out.   The one game in which the clock plays no part in the outcome, but one in which time is measured by the score.  It flies with a victory and seems to stop during a defeat.

We grimace as we think back to a particular situation in which a could have, or a should have, might, just might, have made things different.  We allow a grin to surface as we replay a spectacular event when all was right and we were the hero, if only for a moment.

A game where we can go back and be youngsters again.  A game where we hear ourselves cheer loudly.  A game where we feel the frustration burning deep into our soul.  A game where to change anything would be to change the passion of the game itself.  And passion allows us to be a child again, to remove the facade and be free to express our feelings and emotions.  To form a comraderie with others striving toward a common goal, if nothing more than because our uniforms are the same.

A game where we can feel the dirt under our feet.  A game where we can smell the grass as we walk onto the field of dreams.  A game where we turn and look toward the crack of a bat and follow the ball as it soars high into the sky.  A game where we are once again transformed back to those youthful daydreams when we are in the batter's box with two out in the bottom of the ninth.  Another chance to be the hero.  Another chance to win the game.   But,...

too soon it's over.....

Since 1925, The American Legion has sponsored a nationwide youth baseball program. During these past seven decades, millions of young players have enjoyed playing baseball. The American Legion and their 2.8 million members have raised millions of dollars each year for players to learn the importance of teamwork, discipline, leadership and good sportsmanship. The American Legion sponsors American Legion Baseball to give players an opportunity to develop their skills, personal fitness, leadership qualities and to have fun.

American Legion Code of Sportsmanship

I will:

Keep the rules; Keep faith with my teammates; Keep my temper; Keep myself fit; Keep a stout heart in defeat; Keep my pride under control in victory; Keep a sound soul; A clean mind; And a healthy body.

This site is dedicated to providing information about the program to the managers, coaches, and players.
